About

Hello, I’m Romy Nuñes, LCSW, and I would like to welcome you to my counseling and therapy practice. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and bilingual psychotherapist offering individual counseling, group counseling, and mental health evaluations virtually to Texas residents.

The heart behind Sana Sana Counseling was born from my own personal loss, deep healing that followed, and the belief that our stories, our grief, and the wounds we carry deserve to be held with compassion and care. After losing my younger brother, Michael, to suicide, I experienced firsthand how grief, trauma, and emotional duelo  combined could completely change life itself. That experience not only impacted me personally, but also strengthened my passion for helping others feel seen, supported, and hopeful again.

As a proud Latina therapist, I understand how hard it can be to carry the weight of anxiety, trauma, family expectations, people-pleasing behaviors, generational wounds, or feeling like you always have to “hold it together.” To be the "strong one" in the family. Many of us were never taught how to talk about emotions, set boundaries, or prioritize ourselves without feeling guilt.

Therapy can become the space where you finally breathe.

For over 12 years, I’ve supported adults and adolescents through life’s most difficult moments including traumatic experiences, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, identity struggles, relationship challenges, and navigating the pressures of acculturating to life in the U.S. Together, we’ll explore your experiences and patterns that may be keeping you stuck so you can begin to feel more grounded, confident, and more like YOU again.

My goal is to create a space where you feel safe enough to be fully yourself, without judgment, without having to minimize your story, and without carrying everything alone. Healing is possible, and you are not alone here.

I'm passionate about supporting immigrants and refugees transition into life in the U.S. I've worked with immigrant families arriving without family, unaccompanied minors, and with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

In my work, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic Therapy, DBT Skills and EMDR (trained) Therapy.

What is the meaning of "Sana, Sana, colita de rana..."

"Sana, sana, colita de rana" is a beloved phrase in many Latino communities. It’s often used as a comforting rhyme, especially by parents and grandparents when children get hurt. The full phrase goes, "Sana, sana, colita de rana, si no sanas hoy, sanarás mañana," which literally translates to "Heal, heal, little frog’s tail, if you don’t heal today, you’ll heal tomorrow."

The saying “Sana Sana” carries a deep sense of tradition and affection, often used to soothe physical pain or emotional distress. At Sana Sana Counseling, we believe that healing is not just physical, but emotional as well. As pain and discomfort are temporary… There is definitely hope for recovery. Support from our team is always available and we look forward to helping you start your healing journey.

Growing up in a Latino household, “Sana Sana” was more than just a phrase...it was comfort, care, and a reminder that healing happens in connection with others. As the daughter of a hardworking single mother who sacrificed so much to provide for me, I remember hearing those words during some of the most difficult moments in my life. They became a source of reassurance, reminding me that even through pain, healing, hope, and brighter days are still possible.
